In recent years, many have taken a closer look at the ingredients in certain beauty and wellness products…especially as the FDA recalled certain skincare products earlier this year for the presence of an undesirable chemical.

And when it comes to deodorant, WVU Medicine reports that 90% of Americans have expressed concern regarding “the link between cancer and using deodorant, antiperspirant, and shaving.” The American Cancer Society has weighed in on the topic, saying: “While the research on this topic is limited, most studies have not found a link between antiperspirant use and the development of breast cancer.”

But if you still prefer to be mindful when making certain skincare decisions, a new recall alert—which appears to highlight a potential manufacturing issue with several types of deodorant—should be on your radar.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a nationwide recall of 67,214 total cases of Power Stick antiperspirant deodorant. Three types of deodorant were specifically named in the alert: Power Stick for Her roll-on Antiperspirant Deodorant Powder Fresh, Power Stick Invisible Protection Roll-On Antiperspirant Deodorant Spring Fresh, and Power Stick Original Nourishing Invisible Protection Roll-On Antiperspirant Deodorant.

Potential manufacturing issues could be the cause, as the FDA’s report lists “cGMP deviations” as the reason for the recall. Though the agency does not further elaborate on what the specific deviations are, CGMP stands for “Current Good Manufacturing Practice”—and the FDA’s website says these regulations “make sure that a product is safe for use, and that it has the ingredients and strength it claims to have.”

The FDA provided the following product details:

According to the report, the recall, which went into effect on July 10, was voluntarily initiated by the recalling firm A.P. Deauville, LLC of Easton, Pennsylvania.

A.P. Deauville says on its website that it purchased the Power Stick brand 20 years ago from the consumer goods company Unilever (which was involved in an ice cream recall last month). Power Stick “has chain-wide distribution in most of the largest discount retailers in the U.S.,” per the website.

A brief online search shows Power Stick products available for purchase through retailers such as Walmart, Dollar Tree, and Amazon.
